If you’re a Houstonian who enjoys their occasional cup ‘o joe, look no further than your home city. Find solace in these five quirky alternatives to big corporate coffee joints that seem to pop up every 10 minutes.
1. Boomtown Coffee
Take your caffeine cravings to West 19th Street and sip your preferred roast (brewed in-house) while sunken into a comfy couch or enjoying the sights and sound of the city on their front patio. 2. A 2nd Cup
If you prefer to take your java with a cause, this cafe on East 11th Street began as a platform to raise awareness of the human trafficking problem in Houston. You can also get your jitters in Westheimer at this two-story coffeehouse with a Greek vibe as eclectic as their clientele. Voted “Best Coffeehouse” by the Houston Press, Agora serves your usual gourmet java and desserts. However, they also carry a wide selection of Wines, Champagne and European delicacies that can all be enjoyed until 2 am, every day.
4. Paperco Cafe
On Elder Street, enjoy some java where “hospitality isn’t an industry, it’s a way of life”. In this coffeehouse with a warehouse/loft-type feel, Brunch is served until 2:30 and you can even contribute to their Daily Common Meal to feed those in need.
5. The Honeymoon Cafe and Bar
Inspired by the pizazz of New Orleans, this Main Street cafe serves breakfast, burgers, sandwiches and even cocktails! Nestled at the city’s center, The Honeymoon also boasts a daily Happy Hour from 4-7 pm for some of its favorite adult beverages.
