Adam Ruins Everything: Awards Shows
College Humor’s Adam Conover has become a household name for exposing common myths of everyday life, and on his sophomore season on Trutv, he doesn’t plan on stopping. This time, Adam ruins Award Shows and the way movies get nominated. The judges behind entertainment awards like the Oscars and the Golden Globes are routinely bribed by movie studios with money, dinners, or celebrity meet-and-greets to get their movies nominated, because, ultimately, it’s all about the money. Films that receive nominations from prestigious organizations like the Academy or the Hollywood Foreign Press usually go on to make millions more after their nominations. Awards like the Emmys also mean higher regard for television networks like Netflix, (who has also bribed individuals to promote their entertainment). Movies that get nominated aren’t necessarily undeserving of esteem, but the ones who win have most likely invested a lot of money to do so.
